Climate & Conditions at Green Hill

A Year-Round Rainforest Destination

Bijagua de Upala sits on the northern Caribbean slope of the Tenorio Volcano range, where moisture-laden trade winds meet volcanic highlands. The result is a warm, humid climate with rainfall spread across the year — the very engine that powers the biodiversity of Green Hill's restored forest. There is no bad time to visit. The dry season (roughly December through April) offers clearer skies ideal for birding and photography, while the wet season fills the forest with amphibians, lush vegetation, and the dramatic atmosphere that brings a restored landscape to life. Daytime temperatures typically hover in a comfortable tropical range, with the elevation of Bijagua keeping the heat from becoming oppressive.

Dry Season (Dec – Apr)

Clearer mornings and longer windows of good light make this prime time for spotting Keel-billed Toucans, Collared Aracaris, and watching sloths bask in the canopy. Trails are easier underfoot and visibility into the forest improves.

Wet Season (May – Nov)

Rainfall revives the recovering forest and brings out herps, night frogs, and dramatic mist across the hillside. Wildlife activity remains high — Baird's Tapirs and sloths are year-round residents unaffected by the rain.
